ADHD Awareness Month

October is ADHD Awareness Month: Its goal is to highlight the shared experiences of those with ADHD and correct misunderstandings about the condition. To celebrate, we’re throwing it back to two episodes of Better to Speak: The Podcast, that uplift stories about Black folks and women with ADHD and organizations working to support them.

Season 3’s opening episode – Kési’s Story – digs into our founder’s journey with ADHD, and how that impacted her work with building Better to Speak.

A few episodes later, Kési was joined by Amina Sesay,  Project Coordinator at the Duke Center for Girls and Women with ADHD, to talk about larger research topics and initiatives that the Center is working on to step in the information gap for girls and women with ADHD.

ADHD – and other conditions that constitute thinking and learning disabilities and differences – require nuanced conversations, particularly in the Black community, to provide those with those conditions the understanding, grace and support they deserve. Collectively, taking the time to learn more about ADHD and the different ways it shows up in individuals, as well as taking the time to identify and unlearn the stigmas associated with ADHD, is a great first step.

Take a moment to listen to the episodes above, and share your thoughts, your own experiences with ADHD, or any questions you might have so we can continue the conversation!
