Better to Speak Communications – Transforming silence into language and action.

This is a highlight story from Better to Speak’s 2021 Annual Report. To explore the full annual report, visit www.bettertospeak.org/past-work.

Better to Speak Communications was created to offer services in political and advocacy communications in collaboration with other young Black advocates & Black-led organizations.

The goal of these services is to offer peer-led guidance on digital communications and to foster partnerships grounded in the desire to evolve into better community members in our respective spheres of influence.

Since soft-launching in 2019, we have worked with six clients who advocate for social justice – whether as a passion project on the side or through their professional lives – in the areas of youth empowerment, Black civic engagement, reproductive justice, mental health and wellness, and more.

Collaboration intensive, comms. strategy, and a content partnership

We worked with the 10For10 team for about three months while they worked out of Washington, D.C. on their strategy and planning for their programming. This partnership resulted in improved brand collateral and our first content partnership.

Website development for a public health journalist and researcher

Public health researcher and journalist Akilah Wise hired Better to Speak to develop a simple, yet professional website to display her multifaceted body of work.

Political Branding, Communications, and Campaign Management

In addition to developing the campaign branding and running communications, Better to Speak managed Kimberly Haase’s campaign for Acworth, Georgia’s Board of Aldermen.

Conclusion – What’s Your Story?

We are working on a signature offer to support Black changemakers as they pursue creating their own advocacy platforms, organizations, and campaigns, specifically with content strategy and writing. This offering will balance tactical services with peer-to-peer guidance and consultation, to not only result in content but in clients’ personal empowerment and increased capacity to make their voices heard online and in real life. Other services will see improved systems and processes to streamline those projects, to create more room for larger projects and campaigns.
